Mark C. DeMareo
The new superintendent of the Plumsted, N.J., Township School District is Mark DeMareo, who has served as assistant superintendent in the Jackson, N.J., Schools for the last five years. DeMareo has spent 30 years in New Jersey public schools in an array of roles, including principalships in Hazlet and Franklin Lakes. His career started as a choral director in Middletown, N.J. An executive committee member of the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, DeMareo holds an Ed.D. in educational administration from Nova Southeastern University.



Debra Jackson
A superintendent for 16 years, Debra Jackson has moved into the top administrative post of her fourth school system, in Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery, N.Y. Jackson previously filled the top berth in Bedford Central School District in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., North Salem, N.Y., and Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J. She worked for eight years in Marlboro, N.Y., as principal and assistant superintendent. Jackson began teaching as an art teacher in Central Valley, N.J. She earned a doctorate of education in executive leadership from Fordham University.



Lynne A. Kovash
Following a nine-year stint as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, Lynne Kovash was promoted into the superintendency of the 5,300-student Moorhead Area Public Schools in Moorhead, Minn. A graduate of Moorhead High School, she previously served as the school district’s supervisor of planning and assessment, assistant principal of an elementary school, special education administrator and coordinator of the gifted and talented program. She began her career as a teacher of students with emotional and behavioral disorders. Kovash was named the 2008 recipient of the Moorhead Human Rights Award in the category of education.



David B. LaRose
David LaRose has assumed the top administrative post in the 10,560-student South Kitsap School District in Port Orchard, Wash., after serving since 2006 as the assistant superintendent for school support. LaRose earlier held three principalships in Port Orchard, Wash., Higley, Ariz., and Scottsdale, Ariz. Having spent a large part of his career in Arizona schools, he also worked as director of community education in Gilbert, Ariz., assistant superintendent in Higley, Ariz., and assistant principal in Scottsdale, Ariz. LaRose started as a teacher in Paradise Valley, Ariz.



Grant E. Schmidt
After a three-year stint as the director of educational services and assistant superintendent of Del Paso Heights School District in Sacramento, Calif., Grant Schmidt has moved into the superintendency of Falcon, Colo., School District 49. He also spent time as a principal in Aurora, Colo., Public Schools and later in the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont, Colo. Schmidt taught for seven years in the Douglas County School District in Minden, Nev. He completed a Ph.D. in educational leadership at the University of Denver.



Kevin P. Singer
A high school graduate of the school district, Kevin Singer has been promoted into the top administrative position in the Topeka, Kan., Public Schools. Previously, he served as superintendent of the Manheim Township School District in Lancaster, Pa., for four years and superintendent of Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District in Texas for three years. An educator for more than three decades, Singer began his career as an elementary school teacher in the Auburn Washburn District in Topeka, Kan., and filled multiple elementary school principalships. He earned a doctoral degree in education from University of Kansas.
