Attending to AI Applications
Two things in this month’s issue deserve special notice.
First, School Administrator will be shining some attention through 2026 on AASA’s Public Education Promise, which articulates a fundamental redesign of our K-12 education system. The initiative centers on five principles, so every other month, beginning with this issue, we will focus on a single principle with a feature-length contribution involving one or two senior members of the AASA staff.
Second, we are introducing a monthly column, AI Applied, that will offer practical applications of artificial intelligence tools in the leadership and management of public schools. The first installment, written by Lance Gibbon, illustrates how one superintendent is modifying his workflow.
I want to thank Gibbon, who is the superintendent of the Hood Canal School District in Skokomish Nation, Wash., and Amy Alzina, superintendent of Cold Spring School District in Santa Barbara, Calif., for their guidance in helping me think through the possibilities before the launch of this important monthly addition to the magazine.
I expect Gibbon and Alzina will be semi-regular contributors to AI Applied, though I’d welcome hearing from others with inspired ideas for our consideration.
