Asked to pick the factors that best measure the quality of schools in their communities, superintendents had three runaway favorites: high school graduation rates, student engagement and students’ hopes about their futures.

Least important of the seven given factors was student scores on standardized exams.

The Gallup survey yielded 1,733 superintendent responses.
