My View

I have long believed that some of the most meaningful professional learning happens when we least expect it. I read to learn, and I am continually reminded that wisdom often appears in the pages of a colleague’s reflections rather than in a textbook or formal leadership training.

That was certainly the case when I read superintendent Chris Dormer’s My View column, “When a Contract Ends but the Job’s Calling Continues,” published in School Administrator magazine’s June 2026 issue.

His message, upon his departure from a job he loved, extends far beyond the conclusion of a superintendent’s contract. It speaks to every education leader who has ever invested heart, time and purpose into serving a school community.
