The New Basics: Real Skills for Real Life
In this discussion, we focus on the second principle of the Public Education Promise: The New Basics: Real Skills for Real Life.
The discussion highlights the importance of community engagement, the role of workforce partnerships, and the shift from traditional academic assessments to skills-based learning. The speakers emphasize the need for educators to foster critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration among students, ensuring they are prepared for careers that may not yet exist.
Most of our educators got into this business because they want to impact children’s lives, not just impact their scores. We believe that investing our efforts in this way not only better equips our graduates to be more successful, it also satisfies that human need of making progress on meaningful work.
Brian Troop, Superintendent, Ephrata Area School District (Pa.)
