My Secret Sauce: Podcasting with Students

As superintendents, we spend significant time communicating — through newsletters, social media posts and presentations — yet those formats can feel distant. I kept wondering whether families could simply hear us talk. Not in polished statements but in real conversations about teaching, learning and leadership.

That question led me to launch two companion podcasts: “The Superintendent’s Secret Sauce” and “The Thrive Hive.” What began as an experiment a few years ago has become one of the most effective and human-centered ways I connect with our community.

The real breakthrough, however, came when students moved from guests to podcast producers.
