Conducting employee evaluations is a normal component of every education administrator’s job description. In some states, annual performance evaluations are a legal obligation. Typically, superintendents evaluate the personnel who report directly to them while other administrators evaluate their direct reports and so on.

The best evaluation instruments acknowledge good performance elements but also show areas where improvement can occur. Generally, everyone in K-12 education accepts that a regular evaluation of school employees is a necessary practice for accountability reasons.
