AASA is excited to share nominations are now open for the prestigious Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award, which recognizes AASA members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing women and underrepresented groups in educational leadership.
This award honors the legacy of Dr. Effie H. Jones, a pioneering school administrator, teacher, and counselor who organized AASA's Office of Minority Affairs and championed equity throughout her career. Dr. Jones dedicated her life to closing academic, health, and social gaps for underserved children while creating pathways for women and minority educators to enter school leadership roles.
Nominations
The award is open to current AASA members who have made significant contributions through:
- Access and Belonging: Expand opportunities for women, underrepresented educators, and underserved children, while demonstrating courageous leadership in advancing the well-being, belonging, and respect of children and adults with unwavering persistence
- Support: Providing leadership development through coaching, mentoring, and innovative programming
- Mentoring: Sharing knowledge and resources to advance women and people of color in education
- Results: Achieving measurable success in advancing underrepresented educators and addressing achievement gaps
