Nora Gutierrez

Superintendent, Tolleson Union High School District (Ariz.)

Superintendent Gutierrez has been involved in education for more than thirty years. Mrs. Gutierrez began her career as a teacher and immediately knew that the most important job duty was to serve students and provide them the absolute best education so they could be successful in their future endeavors. During her career at the school level, she has held the positions of teacher, coach, Collaborative Peer Teacher, and Assistant Principal.

Superintendent Gutierrez had a desire to go beyond the classroom and serve the whole education process and transitioned to administrative roles. She has held administrative positions as Human Resources Director, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, Assistant Superintendent for Operations, Information Technology, Safety and Security, Athletics Director and just prior to TUHSD as the Executive Director of the Arizona Latino Association of Administrators and Superintendents (AZALAS).

Superintendent Gutierrez believes in sharing her years of experience and knowledge to make a positive difference in promoting equity in education for all. She currently serves on the Arizona School Alliance for Workers’ Compensation Board, the (National) Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) Board, the AZALAS Board and past president, as well as the Grand Canyon University President’s Educational Advisory Council. She received the ASA All Arizona Superintendent Award for Large Size School Districts in December 2020. She was awarded the AZALAS Outstanding Superintendent of the Year for 2020-2021. She was also recognized with the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) National Education Leadership Award for 2021.

Mrs. Gutierrez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree from New Mexico State University and obtained her Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Arizona State University.
