Joel Hames is the Chief Product Officer at Subject.ai, with over 27 years of experience at the intersection of learning and technology. He has dedicated his career to building tools that make education more relevant, relatable, and personalized for every student.

Joel previously served as Head of Product at Paper (tutoring) and Schoology (LMS), and as VP of Product at PowerSchool and SunGard K-12, leading teams that built classroom and back-office solutions used by millions of students and educators worldwide. Before transitioning into edtech, he spent sixteen years in education leadership, directing instructional technology initiatives across three California school districts.

Joel holds a Master of Education and remains driven by a lifelong passion for making students, teachers and admin feel seen, heard, and supported through thoughtful product design that bridges pedagogy and innovation.
