David R. Schuler
Known for his ability to inspire leaders and build new opportunities for student success, Dr. David R. Schuler earned the title of 2018 Illinois and National Superintendent of the Year® and served as the 2015-2016 President of AASA.
David Schuler is a highly experienced, successful and well-regarded educational leader. He was a superintendent for 22 years prior to taking on the Executive Director role at AASA. He has served in rural, urban and suburban settings, including 17 years as superintendent of High School District 214, Illinois’ largest high school system.
Some of David’s accomplishments include the design and implementation of the District 214 Career Pathways curriculum, providing students with an at-scale model for early college credit and work-based learning experiences before leaving high school, establishing the Center for Career Discovery that encompasses more than 1,000 industry partners and delivers more than 2,500 work-based learning experiences, and establishing the non-profit District 214 Education Foundation that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars.
