Craig Lockhart

Superintendent, Valdosta City Schools (Ga.)

Dr. Craig Lockhart became the fifteenth superintendent of Valdosta City Schools in 2023 after previously serving as superintendent of the Dooly County School System. He has also held leadership roles in Birmingham City Schools and Newton County Schools, including principalships at both the high school and elementary levels. Under his leadership, schools earned multiple Title I honors for academic improvement and achievement. A nationally board-certified educator in science, Dr. Lockhart has presented school improvement strategies to state, national, and international audiences and has consulted on STEM education initiatives abroad. He is also the author of School Genetics: A Blueprint for Saving Public Schools.
