PRESENTERS

Shannon Chaffin-Teacher of the Year
Her journey in education began at Eastern Connecticut State University where she completed both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Education. She currently teaches fifth grade at Eastfield Global Magnet School in Marion, North Carolina. She has been an educator with McDowell County Schools since 2012. She has twice been named as a Teacher of the Year by her peers.

Michelle Baker-NC Northwest Region Principal of the Year
As an administrator for 10 years and a teacher for 20 years, she understands the importance of supporting the whole child. She has been able to see best practices of districts along the eastern seaboard as her husband served in the USMC for 30 years. Eastfield Global Magnet School is trauma informed and has leveraged school meals and lunch time to intentionally support SEL among students. She is an avid runner understanding she must prioritize her own sense of balance and well-being to fully support the staff and students she serves daily.
