AASA Names 2022 Women in School Leadership Award Finalists

Alexandria, Va. – Nov. 30, 2021 –AASA, The School Superintendents Association, is pleased to announce the finalists for the organization’s 2022 Women in School Leadership Awards. The awards, sponsored by Horace Mann and AASA, pay tribute to the talent, creativity and vision of outstanding women educational administrators in the nation’s public schools.

“Horace Mann supports AASA’s efforts to increase the number of women in educational leadership roles,” said Horace Mann president and CEO, Marita Zuraitis. “A critical component of this initiative is increasing visibility of the exceptional women leaders who are driving positive change in our schools. The finalists are as follows:

The Central Office/Principal Award – awarded to any female central office or building-level leader
• Zabrina Cannady, assistant superintendent for student services, Houston County School District, Perry, Ga.
• Susan Field, assistant superintendent for learning services, Academy District 20, Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Superintendent Award – awarded to any female superintendent
• Sharon Contreras, superintendent, Guilford County Schools, Greensboro, N.C.
• Avis Williams, superintendent, Selma City Schools, Selma, Ala.

Candidates are judged on leadership in meeting the learning needs of students, personal and organizational communication strength, constant professional improvement of knowledge and skills, and active community involvement.

The final award recipients in each category will be announced during the AASA National Conference on Education, Feb. 17-19, 2022, in Nashville, Tenn.
