Alexandria, Va. – October 5, 2021 – Superintendents and other school system leaders championing the creation of successful models of future innovative learning environments are gathering as part of the Innovative District Empowering All Learning (IDEAL) Cohort Summit, Oct. 5-6, hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

During the two-day event, participants will engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers as learning is turning toward a more future-focused, personalized nature to address the needs of the whole learner. Featured speakers include:

  • Ray McNulty, president, Successful Practice Network and National Dropout Prevention Center
  • Bill Daggett, founder, Successful Practices Network and the International Center for Leadership in Education
  • Carole Basile, dean, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University

“Creating a future-focused learning journey for our students and reengineering instruction for our teachers are must-haves in our school districts throughout the country,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “I applaud AASA members and their staffs who are participating in our IDEAL cohort. Once we rid ourselves of what remains of the pandemic, returning to the past is not an option if our school systems are going to be successful. This cohort is leading the charge in terms of creating forward-thinking, innovative teaching and learning.”

Members of the AASA IDEAL Cohort work collaboratively to research, inspire, empower and amplify educators’ work to realize this new vision for empowering all learners. The cohort will share examples of the most outstanding practices for innovating and individualizing learning throughout the nation.

Participants of the cohort will:

  • Identify how equity is being addressed as the foundation for all components of student-centered learning.
  • Work to identify what learners need to create the most dynamic learning environment possible with a focus on personalizing learning.
  • Work collaboratively on innovations that help transform systems to ensure future-focused learning environments in their district.
  • Gain a network of colleagues who are embracing building student-centered environments by utilizing a personalized approach to learning in their districts.

Gail Pletnick, retired (Arizona) superintendent and past AASA president, and Ken Wallace, superintendent, Maine Township (Ill.) High School District 207, are serving as co-chairs of the cohort.
