AASA Urges Federal Restraint in Seclusion and Restraint Legislation

AASA published a new report entitled: Keeping Schools Safe: Ensuring Federal Policy Promotes School Safety The study, completed in April 2011 are based on responses from 389 superintendents from across the country and compares current federal policy proposals with state legislation crafted in collaboration with superintendents.

The study documents the importance of preserving school districts' ability to use seclusion and restraint techniques in situations where a student is in danger of hurting himself, another student, or a school staff member.
