AASA ESSA Resource on Transportation for Students in Foster Care
AASA, in collaboration with the National
Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, has released a guide
on the new ESSA
provisions focused on transportation for students in foster care. In contrast
to the majority of assessment, accountability and funding provisions in ESSA
which are effective beginning the 2017-2018 school year, ESSA’s foster caretransportation provisions are effective December 2016. This guide willhelp you understand the responsibilities both child welfare
agencies and school districts have for transporting children in foster care,
specifically which aspects are optional and which aspects are requirements. In
addition, we provide a series of questions to guide the development of local
transportation procedures. This is the first of many ESSA resources we will
producing for AASA members.
