AASA Statement on Senate Education Appropriations Bill

Alexandria, Va. – Sept. 7, 2017 – AASA Executive Director Daniel A. Domenech released the following statement today in response to the FY2018 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill passed today by the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations.

“AASA is pleased to see Congress moving forward with its efforts to avoid a federal shutdown.

“Specific to education, we applaud the Senate education appropriations bill for its bipartisan support for the nation’s public schools and the teachers, students and communities they serve. We commend the Senate for rejecting the draconian cuts within President Trump’s FY18 proposal and for their continued commitment to supporting and strengthening public education by maintaining investment in critical K-12 programs such as IDEA, Perkins Career Technical Education, ESSA Title I and Title II, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
