Frailey to Urban Supts. Academy: "It’s about the Kids"

Alton FraileyParticipants of AASA’s Urban Superintendents Academy were treated to a special guest last Saturday in Alexandria, Va. Alton L. Frailey, superintendent of Katy (Texas) Independent School District and president-elect of AASA told the academy that “The main thing to keep in mind is, it's about the kids.”

“If you want to serve children and fight for children, this is the place to be,” said Frailey.  “We need the leadership.”

Launched a year ago, AASA and Howard University created a partnership to bolster district leadership in our nation’s urban areas. The Academy offers professional development, clinical field experiences and a range of resources to prepare these superintendents for success. Participants meet at AASA headquarters in Alexandria, Va., during the course of the program.

“This is not for the faint of heart,” said Frailey. “The urban job is a very different job. Congratulations for being here.”
