The Innovation by Design Cohort is geared toward the future-ready learner and leader with the primary objective to collectively support change, growth and progress. Participants will learn from school districts carrying out innovative work from designing buildings differently to implementing unique hiring practices, which are resulting in better student outcomes and higher retention rates among staff.


What Will I Learn?

  • Develop and sustain a positive school culture engaged in innovation
  • School redesign and best practices in construction and educational programming
  • Examples of how personalized learning is articulated throughout the education system
  • What systematic changes in school culture are needed to embrace a future-driven mindset
  • How to advance AASA's Learning 2025 goals for all students

Program Lead

 KristiKristi Wilson

Kristi Wilson is beginning her tenth year as superintendent of the Buckeye Elementary School District in one of the fastest-growing cities in America, Buckeye, Arizona. Prior to her superintendency, Kristi served in a variety of leadership roles, including an assistant superintendent, executive director of student services, special education director, school administrator, teacher, and adjunct professor in both Arizona and Oregon.

Kristi is A past president of AASA, past president of the National Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN), and serves on the American Heart Association, the Abrazo West Valley Hospital Board and the Executive Board of Arizona’s Business and Education Coalition (ABEC). She is the 2020 Arizona Superintendent of the Year.
