2016 Discover China Program Trip

AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and Triway International Group Work Together to Build a Bridge for the K-12 Educational Exchanges between China and the United States.

From July 5 -16, 2016, the 12-day “Discover China” program, jointly launched by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and Triway International Group (Triway), was held successfully in Beijing, Nanjing, Yangzhou and Wuxi. This program aims to promote and strengthen AASA superintendents and American K-12 educators’ interactions and exchanges with their counterparts in China, so that both parties can learn from each other, expand their horizons, encourage innovation and make progress together.

This delegation was led by AASA’s Chief Operating Officer Charles Woodruff, with participants, including AASA Associate Executive Director for Leadership Services Mort Sherman; Special Education Consultant of Arlington Public Schools (Va.) Debra Sherman; Assistant Superintendent of City of Fairfax Schools (Va.) Phyllis Pajardo; Principal of Lanier Middle School (Va.) Ms. Erin Lenart; Administrator of Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts (Va.) Diego Wilson; and AASA Business/Cultural Exchange Specialist Tara Gao. AASA delegates exchanged and shared ideas with educators in China. They discussed relevant topics regarding K-12 education in the United States and China, such as sister school agreement, STEM curriculum and programs and how to improve K-12 education in both the U.S. and China.
