Food service provider helps school districts overcome challenges, offering real food, real help

Alexandria, Va. – Aug. 17, 2017 – AASA, The School Superintendents Association, announced today
a new partnership with NutriStudents K-12®, a self-operated food service platform to help school districts improve their food service programs, comply with Department of Agriculture nutritional guidelines, improve profitability by increasing participation and reducing per plate costs, and function more efficiently.

The overall goal of the partnership is to help schools maintain internal control of their food service programs while reducing the administrative responsibilities placed on food service staff.

“We are extremely happy to be associated with AASA, the nation’s premier organization that represents the leadership of our public school districts,” said Nancy Close, CEO and co-founder, NutriStudents K-12®. “As food service directors continue to struggle to offer menus that comply with USDA guidelines, operate within their budgets, maximize use of their commodity foods and prepare for their administrative reviews, they need help. Our program helps them overcome many of the challenges they face by providing real food and real help — to achieve real results.”

NutriStudents K-12® is not a food service management company, but rather a system for districts to use to streamline management of nearly every facet of their food service programs, from more than 100 complete weeks of USDA-compliant menus and accompanying recipes and reports, to streamlined ordering, training and menu promotion.

“The nutritional well-being of a child is a critically important factor for how that child learns,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “With billions of school lunches served over the course of a school year, we are pleased to partner with a food service program that is making a positive difference in school cafeterias across the country.”

NutriStudents K-12® helps school districts to:

  • Increase revenues by enticing more students to participate in meal programs with the delicious, chef-created, USDA-compliant breakfast, lunch and snack menus, as well as promotional tools to engage students, staff and parents.
  • Reduce food costs with simplified market baskets and precise commodity ordering with the Commodity Forecasting Tool.
  • Save staff time spent on menu creation, reporting, ordering and training with supplied reports for all menus, a Product Order Guide that automates distributor orders based on districts’ chosen menu weeks, and training resources on Offer vs. Serve, reimbursable meal requirements, serving procedures and food safety practices.
