Dear Colleague,
Excellence in leadership in our nation's public schools takes a major step
forward each year when we announce the new class of superintendents who
successfully completed the AASA National Superintendent Certification Program®.
AASA is the premier organization for school district leadership. That's why we
encourage superintendents who are in their first 7 years on the job or desiring
to refresh their skill set to consider enrolling in our program. Launched in
2013, the program develops real-world skills that new superintendents need,
while building a network of mentors, colleagues, critical friends and experts
for leaders to call on throughout their careers.
We are very pleased that Susan Enfield of Highline Public Schools, Stephen
Murley of Iowa City Community School District, and Aaron Spence of Virginia
Beach City Public Schools and Amy Sichel, retired superintendent from Abington
School District and past AASA president, are our leads for the Certification
program.
The program will:
- Teach the business skills that superintendents
must have to lead a successful district;
- Offer the opportunity to fill in gaps left out
in traditional course work;
- Provide the opportunity to work with—and learn
from—other superintendents whose work has already proven effective;
and
- Support each superintendent participant in the
creation of a long-term relationship with an appropriate mentor as well
as with critical superintendent friends.
The
AASA National Superintendent Certification Program® is a collaborative
effort with AASA state affiliates, the National School Boards Association, and
business and corporate leaders. The program was developed by superintendents
and is led by current and former superintendents who have demonstrable track
records of success.
Superintendents from all regions of the U.S. are welcome to apply.
