School Employee Wellness

The NEA Healthy Futures Staff Wellness Initiative will improve school employee wellness to help reduce rates of absenteeism, stress levels and chronic disease among school district employees.

At A Glance

NEA Healthy Futures (part of the National Education Association) has received funding from Kaiser Permanente to promote wellness for teachers, para-professionals, and other building staff. This project examines how to improve the health of teachers and other building staff, through better use of staff wellness mechanisms and incentives available through health insurance and other employee benefits such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

Starting August 2015, AASA has entered a one-year partnership with NEA Healthy Futures, to provide the superintendent ‘voice’ for this work.

More specifically, we recruited superintendents to participate in virtual focus groups on October 15, 2015 and we will recruit superintendents to participate in a one and a half day meeting in Washington D.C. in early 2016. AASA will also engage superintendents in the review process of all documents and tools developed in this initiative.

Stay tuned for more information on the resources developed from our focus groups and from the initiative as a whole.
