 Listed below are a variety of resources to help better understand Healthy Eating and Active Living, specifically on how to prevent childhood obesity through physical activity, and our work regarding this initiative.

 The Parent Heart Watch Back to School Flyers


The Parent Heart Watch (PHW) is a national advocacy organization focused on protecting youth from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). PHW is comprised of parents and other advocates who have been personally touched by sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) or sudden cardiac death (SCD) and who now put their time and effort into preventing SCA/SCD in the young throughout their community

The following are Back to School flyers for school administrators, coaches and educators, as well as parents on how to best help with issues related to SCA.

  • Superintendents/Administrators/Principals Flyer: Explains how school districts can be prepared to protect students with a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan.
  • Coaches/Educators Flyer: Detailed information on what school staff can do to educate students and their school community about SCA in youth as well as spot potential issues.
  • Parents Flyer: Overviews what SCA in youth and what parents can do to project young hearts.

  •  Smart Ideas to Implement Smart Snacks in Schools Webinar co-hosted with Action for Healthy Kids(September 28, 2016): Action for Healthy Kids and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, hosted this timely and informative webinar to learn about the Final Rule about Nutrition Standards for All Foods Sold in School (Smart Snacks) and putting these new requirements in action. This webinar was held on September 28, 2016 and featured insight from district leaders and the results of a AFHK:AASA District Leadership Survey on Smart Snacks. AASA members John Skretta, Superintendent of Norris School District (NE) and Jeff Smith, Superintendent of Balsz School District (Ariz.) discussed how they have implemented Smart Snacks in their school districts, encouraging healthy eating habits.
