The Urban Superintendents Academy is a new cross-institutional partnership that offers a dynamic approach to urban superintendent preparation and certification. AASA, The School Superintendents Association, has launched a distinct partnership with the University of Southern California to bolster the effectiveness of school district leadership in our nation’s urban areas.

• Current superintendents and experienced building or central office leaders

• Deputy, associate, or assistant superintendents

• Leaders holding a master’s or doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline, a valid certification or credential as a school administrator, a position in a school district, and accumulated experience of seven or more years in one or more of these positions

  • Small cohorts (20) participants
  • Receive job placement support, including direct access to search firm representatives who will support your job search efforts
  • Receive coaching and mentorship from practitioners who have had successful careers in complex districts
  • Practice and receive feedback on leading courageous conversations with school boards and other key stakeholders
  • Develop a network of professionals with a common goal of seeking improvement locally and nationally
  • Receive Urban Superintendent Certification jointly issued by AASA and USC Rossier School of Education

“USC Rossier’s mission to improve learning in urban education locally, nationally and globally is well served by this new partnership. Rossier has a long and successful history of preparing diverse superintendents for leadership roles in our most challenged K-12 districts and we are proud to join forces with AASA to extend this critical effort.” – Dean Karen Symms Gallagher, USC Rossier School of Education.
