Ember Conley
Ember Conley is the new superintendent in Park City, Utah, a position she accepted after serving two years in the Maricopa, Ariz., Unified School District as deputy superintendent and director of assessment and accountability. Previously, she spent seven years as a high school and elementary school principal in Colorado and Arizona, and earlier she worked as an elementary and middle school science and math teacher. A member of AASA since 2012, Conley received her Ed.D. from Argosy University in Phoenix, Ariz.


Karen M. Couch
After 12 years as superintendent of the 3,200-student Moriarty-Edgewood School District in Moriarty, N.M., Karen Couch has taken over the top district post in Kent County, Md. She is a past president of the New Mexico School Superintendents’ Association, and she previously served as a teacher, elementary school principal and associate superintendent for personnel in Alamogordo, N.M. Couch earned her Ed.D. in educational management and leadership from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. She has been an AASA member for 11 years.


Kevin M. Maxwell
Kevin Maxwell has been appointed chief executive officer for the Prince George’s County Public Schools in Upper Marlboro, Md., with its 126,000 students in 205 schools. The move follows seven years as superintendent in Anne Arundel County, Md., and two years as community superintendent in Montgomery County, Md. Earlier, Maxwell spent eight years as a high school principal in the district he now leads. An AASA member for seven years, he has a Ph.D. in language, literacy and culture from University of Maryland Baltimore County.


Nylajean R. McDaniel
After eight years as director of human resources in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District in University Heights, Ohio, Nylajean McDaniel has moved into the district’s superintendency. She earlier was superintendent in Fairview Park, Ohio, for six years and director of curriculum with East Cleveland City Schools. Before moving into administration, McDaniel taught Spanish and English in the Ohio cities of East Cleveland and Oregon. An AASA member since 1990, McDaniel earned an Ed.D from Kent State University.


Lu Anne Meinders
The new superintendent in Jackson, N.J., is district veteran Lu Anne Meinders. Before assuming the top post, she spent five years as the district’s deputy superintendent and five years as assistant superintendent. With the exception of two years as director of projects and grants in the Lakewood, N.J., Public Schools, Meinders has been with the Jackson School District since 1985 in various teaching and administration positions, including director of curriculum and instruction and district coordinator of grants. She became an AASA member in 2004.


Ellen H. Schneider
The Wells-Ogunquit Community School District in Wells, Maine, has welcomed Ellen Schneider as the new superintendent. She joined the district from School Administrative District 1 in Presque Isle, Maine, where she served as assistant superintendent for 10 years. Prior to her recent appointment, Schneider spent 26 years in Presque Isle, first as a special education teacher and then in various administrator capacities, such as special education director and curriculum director. Schneider has been an AASA member for nine years.

Tom Hughes, from superintendent, Chippewa Falls, Wis., to assistant professor, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Ariz.

Jerri Kemble, from superintendent, Centre School District, Lost Springs, Kan., to assistant superintendent of educational technology programs, Lawrence, Kan.

Ed Klamfoth, from superintendent, Edgewood-Colesburg Community School District, Edgewood, Iowa, to superintendent, Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District, Waverly, Iowa

Brian R. Miller, from assistant superintendent, North Allegheny School District, Pittsburgh, Pa., to superintendent, Pine-Richland School District, Gibsonia, Pa.

Dwayne Northcraft, from superintendent, Central Fulton School District, McConnellsburg, Pa., to superintendent, Berlin Brothersvalley School District, Berlin, Pa.
