Mark Henry
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, Texas, has welcomed Mark Henry to his fifth superintendency in the state. He has worked as a superintendent for more than two decades, most recently at Galena Park for seven years. Henry’s prior postings were at Sulphur Springs, Collinsville and Milford. His career began in the classroom in 1982 in Grand Prairie, Texas. An AASA member since 2004, Henry holds an Ed.D. in administration from the University of North Texas.
 PeopleLutzRandal A. Lutz
After four years serving as assistant superintendent of elementary education at Baldwin-Whitehall School District in Pittsburgh, Pa., Randal Lutz will move to the top berth. A member of AASA since 2011, Lutz has held various posts in the district, which he joined as vice principal of J.E. Harrison Middle School in 1996. Over the next dozen years, Lutz also served as principal, supervisor of elementary curriculum and instruction and acting superintendent. He earned his doctorate in K-12 administration and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
 PeopleRoysterW. Burke Royster Jr.
Greenville County, S.C., has appointed William Burke Royster Jr. as superintendent. He spent the past six years as the district’s deputy superintendent. Royster joined Greenville County for the first time in 1983 as an assistant principal before working in the Rock Hill, Georgetown County and Oconee County districts, all in South Carolina. Royster rejoined Greenville in 2005 as deputy superintendent for operations. He is the son of the late William Royster, AASA president in 1984-85.
 PeopleSpeerJohn Speer
John Speer is the new superintendent of College Community School District in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He will join the nearly 16,000-student district from nearby Huxley, Iowa, where he has served in the same post at Ballard Community Schools since 2006. Prior, Speer was superintendent in Allamakee Community School District in Waukon, Iowa, for two years. He spent 10 years as a language arts teacher and secondary school principal in the Independence Community Schools and East Buchanan Community Schools. He has been a member of AASA since 2005.

Sidelight
Calling out stage directions, whispering forgotten lines and adjusting performers’ costumes aren’t part of the job for any superintendent except probably Linda Lemmon. She’s known as “the dancing superintendent,” choreographing and directing the elementary school musical for the past 18 years in the Northern York County School District in Dillsburg, Pa., where she’s been superintendent since 2009. A dancer since childhood, Lemmon started the student musical as a principal. “It’s a labor of love,” the AASA member told the York Daily Record. This spring’s production of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” will be her grand finale. She’s retiring at the end of June.
