Bruno held superintendencies in Wellesley, Mass., and Ithaca, N.Y., and high school principalships in Middletown, N.Y., and Darien, Conn. He holds a doctorate from Harvard.

Clifford B. Janey
Scholastic Inc., the New York City-based educational publisher, has drawn its new vice president for education from the superintendent ranks. Clifford Janey spent seven years in the top berth of the Rochester, N.Y., City School District beginning in 1995. He earlier was chief academic officer in Boston, where he spent 22 years in various leadership posts, including stints as a zone superintendent, community district superintendent and middle school principal. Tyler earlier spent nearly four years as Caddo’s deputy superintendent before she moved to New Orleans, where she served as deputy superintendent/chief academic officer and interim superintendent. SIDELIGHT
When he’s sings “The Great Pretender,” made famous by The Platters, Daryl Sherman might be considering his alter ego. Sherman (he’s the rocker in blue), now in his 10th year as superintendent in Lake Mills, Iowa, belts out the golden oldies as a vocalist with Nate and the Moonlighters, whose members largely are school district employees. The three-year-old rock ‘n’ roll band has played at statewide superintendent conferences and community events, performing before as many as 1,500. Sherman says the group has donated more than $30,000 in proceeds to charity.
