Jeanne M. Dangle After 3½ years as superintendent of the Avon, N.Y., Central Schools, Jeanne Dangle has moved into the superintendency of the 5,800-student Baldwinsville district, a Syracuse suburb. She previously spent two years as assistant to the superintendent of the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES in Spencerport, N.Y. Her first administrative post was an elementary school principalship in Jamestown, N.Y., for six years. Dangle holds a certificate of advanced study from St. Bonaventure University. Allene H. Magill An educator who started her career as a paraprofessional before moving into the superintendency is the new executive director of the 54,000-member Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Allene Magill spent the past two years as superintendent in Dalton, Ga., after serving for 13 years in the superintendencies of Paulding County and Forsyth County, both in Georgia. She twice received the state superintendent of the year award. Magill started as a paraprofessional in her home state of Mississippi in 1976. Bettye J. Ray Recently assuming the top administrative berth in the Social Circle, Ga., City School District is Bettye Ray. She spent the four previous years as superintendent in Stewart County in Lumpkin, Ga. She also spent two years as director of the secondary school curriculum in Newton County Schools in Covington, Ga. Ray spent the majority of her career in Social Circle, where she started as a high school teacher before eventually becoming middle school principal, then high school principal in 1996-97. Gerald L. Zahorchak He started his career as a teacher in Johnstown, Pa., and spent the last seven years as the district’s superintendent and federal programs coordinator, but now Gerald Zahorchak is moving on to state government as Pennsylvania deputy secretary for elementary and secondary education. He also filled principalships in the Shanksville-Stonycreek and North Star districts, both in the Keystone State. Zahorchak also served a stint on the school board of the Greater Johnstown district. SIDELIGHT Steve Crawford doesn’t mind getting down and dirty as owner of a cattle ranch in southern Oklahoma, about three miles and a world removed from where he also does duty as superintendent of the 1,700-student Byng School District. He’s owned the herd for nearly 14 years, and today it numbers 130 cows, 100 calves and a half dozen bulls. “My cows are my psychiatrists,” says Crawford, 53. “I go out and sort of lose myself taking care of the herd.” TRANSITIONS APPOINTMENTS Don Bunce, from superintendent, Minot, Mont., Catholic Schools, to president, Billings, Mont., Catholic Schools Thomas Fowler-Finn, from superintendent, Fort Wayne, Ind., to superintendent, Cambridge, Mass.
