Lois Berlin
A 30-year career in education as a teacher, principal and superintendent has led to the presidency of the Education Law Association for Lois Berlin, who will serve in the post for a year. Berlin has been superintendent in Falls Church, Va., since 2004. Previously she worked as associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction in Alexandria, Va., and held principalships in two Alexandria elementary schools over 10 years. Her teaching career started in Aberdeen, Scotland. Berlin holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Virginia Tech. She has been a member of the 700-member ELA for 11 years.

Brent Clark
A veteran Illinois superintendent has been selected as executive director of the Illinois Association of School Administrators. Brent Clark, superintendent of Belleville Township High School District 201 in Belleville, Ill., will assume his duties on July 1, succeeding Walter Warfield. Previously Clark was superintendent in Benton, Ill., and Thompsonville, Ill. He is an Illinois representative on the AASA Governing Board. Clark earned his doctoral degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

George Mannon
George Mannon has assumed leadership of his fourth school district as superintendent of the Torrance, Calif., Unified Schools. Since 1993 Mannon also has held the superintendencies in the following California systems: Glendora Unified, Tustin Unified and Carlsbad Unified, and also has worked as a principal in Charleston, W.Va., executive director in Kanawha County, W.Va., and deputy superintendent in Phoenix, Ariz. On the district level, he has held superintendencies in New Jersey and Louisiana and spent one academic year as chief executive officer and chief financial officer of the Baltimore City Schools. SIDELIGHT
Educators know him as the veteran superintendent of the St. Charles Parish School District in Luling, La. But musicians have known Rodney LaFon as one mean trumpeter ever since the 4th grade (when he abandoned the accordion). By age 11, he was part of the Dixie-style Dunce Honky Tonks before he settled on rhythm and blues and an avocation blowing the horn for the past 27 years as an original member of the Luther Kent and Trick Bag band. You can catch his gig 3-4 times a month this time of year on Bourbon Street and other Southern locales.
