More than 10 years ago, Mark Bielang’s wife gave him a set of carving tools and a slab of wood as a gift. Now it’s a passion for the superintendent of the 2,300-student Paw Paw, Mich., Public Schools. Bielang carves and paints figurines and walking sticks, typically for an hour at the end of the day.
