People_DelgadoArturo Delgado
After 12 years in the superintendency of the San Bernardino, Calif., City Unified Schools, Arturo Delgado has assumed the top post in the Los Angeles County Office of Education, which offers services for troubled and incarcerated youth and other specialized programs for 27,000 students. Delgado, an educator for nearly 30 years, earlier served as coordinator of personnel and assistant superintendent of personnel services for the Alvord Unified School District in Riverside, Calif. An AASA member since 1999, he holds a doctoral degree in educational administration from the University of La Verne.
People_GualtieriRaymond D. Gualtieri
The North Allegheny School District in Pittsburgh, Pa., has a new superintendent in Ray Gualtieri, who worked since 2003 as superintendent in Long Island’s East Hampton Union Free Schools. He’s held the top berth in two other systems since 1997, Somerset Hills School District in Bernardsville, N.J., and Wissahickon School District in Ambler, Pa. Earlier, he held posts in the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown, Pa. Gualtieri, who joined AASA in 1997, earned an Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in organizational leadership.
People_HargensDonna M. Hargens
The 100,000-student Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Ky., has welcomed Donna Hargens to its top executive post. Hargens, who joined AASA as a member in 2010, had been serving as chief academic officer in the Wake County Public Schools in Cary, N.C., where she also was interim superintendent. Hargens had worked in Wake County since 1989, serving as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, area assistant superintendent and principal of two high schools. She started as a Spanish and English teacher in Lomira, Wis. She has an Ed.D. from Seton Hall University.
People_HenrieLinda Henrie
The National Federation of State High School Associations has appointed Linda Henrie, an AASA member since 1995, to a four-year term on its board of directors. Henrie is in her seventh year as superintendent of the Mesquite, Texas, Independent School District, where her career began 44 years ago as a business teacher. She also served as assistant superintendent in Mesquite. Henrie holds current leadership positions with the Texas University Interscholastic League, including chairing the Legislative Council. She earned a doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
People_LyonSandra L. Lyon
After a two-year stint as chief leadership officer in the Palmdale, Calif., school district, Sandra Lyon has accepted the superintendency of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Lyon earlier served as superintendent/principal of the Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes School District, also in California. A former journalist, Lyon spent most of her education career in Lancaster, Calif., as a principal and director of curriculum, instruction and assessment. A one-year member of AASA, Lyon also served as a California-based training consultant for Thinking Maps.
People_PloughBarbara L. Plough
Barbara (Bobbie) Plough recently moved into her third superintendency in California, leading the Santa Clara, Calif., Unified School District. She spent the past year overseeing the Natomas Unified Schools in Sacramento after three years as superintendent of the Romoland School District in Riverside County. Plough, an AASA member since 2010, earlier was Romoland’s assistant superintendent for educational services and human resources and a principal with the San Diego Juvenile Court and Community Schools. Plough holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from San Diego State University.
