What do superintendents who are contemplating retirement intend to do after retiring from the superintendency?

Thirty-eight percent of 411 New York state superintendents responding to a 2015 survey said they wanted to seek an appointment as an interim district administrator. A study nine years earlier indicated 46 percent hoped to work in an interim capacity.

According to the latest survey, the next two most popular intended pursuits were volunteering (a response not offered on the earlier survey) and teaching in higher education. The respondents were not limited in their number of post-retirement selections.
