Here’s how it works:

  • AASA carefully selects the books, which address timely topics that are important to superintendents and other school system leaders who are focused on student success.
  • An annual fee of $99 covers all four books and includes shipping. You’ll save more than 30% by joining the AASA Professional Library.
  • Your books will be shipped on Jan. 1, April 1, July 1 and Oct. 1 to the address you provide on the order form.

Sign up by Sept. 5, 2008, and the first book you will receive is: Safe and Secure Schools: 27 Strategies for Prevention and Intervention, by Judy Brunner and Dennis Lewis. This timely resource for new, veteran and aspiring school administrators offers cost-effective techniques to create a safe school environment for students, staff and the community. This book will be shipped to you on Oct. 1, 2008. Also, don't forget to attend AASA's Safe and Secure Schools Conference, Oct. 8-10, 2008, in Chicago!

The second book you will receive is Making Sense of Social Networks in Schools, by Terrence E. Deal, Ted Purinton and Daria Cook Waetjen. This book is a tool to help school leaders restructure their schools for efficiency and success. The authors analyze social networks -- the usually invisible relationships that control the power and information that flow through an organization. The authors define what social networks are, explore how various types of networks operate in school environments (i.e., task networks, friendship networks, power networks and culture networks), and provide school leaders with strategies for working these networks. This book will be shipped to you on Jan. 1, 2009.
