Alexandria, Va. – Sept. 5, 2017 – AASA Executive Director Daniel A. Domenech released the following statement today in response to President Trump’s proposal to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“As the national organization representing public school superintendents, AASA, The School Superintendents Association, supports the DACA program and the protection it affords some of our nation’s youngest and most vulnerable students.

“The superintendents we represent just started the 2017-18 school year and are focused on the professional, legal and moral commitments they made to provide educational opportunities to all of their students. We are concerned by the uncertainty today’s announcement brings, not only to our students and their families, but also our broader schools and communities.
