Alexandria, Va. – May 4, 2017 – The Save Medicaid in Schools Coalition issued the following statement today regarding the vote on the American Health Care Act.

“The Save Medicaid in Schools Coalition is deeply disappointed in the result of today’s vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The passage of this bill, which restructures Medicaid and removes mandates of critical coverage for comprehensive essential health benefits, jeopardizes health care for the nation’s most vulnerable children: Students with disabilities and students in poverty.

“AHCA reneges on Medicaid’s 50-plus-year commitment to provide America’s children with access to vital health care services that ensure they have adequate educational opportunities and can contribute to society by imposing a per-capita cap and shifting current and future costs to taxpayers in every state and Congressional district. The policy changes put forth in this bill will disproportionally harm children’s access to care, including services received at school.
