Consortium to Serve as National Leader in Shaping Educational Technology Policies and Programs

Alexandria, Va. – March 23, 2016 – Superintendents championing the creation of dynamic digital learning environments for all students are gathering at Discovery Education’s Silver Spring, Md., headquarters, April 13-14, to kick off AASA’s 2016 Digital Consortium.

During this immersive two-day event, participating superintendents successfully leading digital transitions across the country will engage in a meaningful dialogue with their peers that will highlight emerging and successful models of combining digital content and professional development to improve student achievement. This event is sponsored by Discovery Education and the Horace Mann Educators Corporation.

“When combined with sustained professional development, digital content and other educational technologies can create engaging and transformative learning opportunities for all students,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA, The School Superintendents Association. “Through platforms such as the Digital Consortium, AASA is connecting superintendents to the best practices and strategies superintendents need to make the digital transition a reality in their school systems. We thank Discovery Education and Horace Mann Educators Corporation for supporting this initiative.”

Membership in the Consortium enriches the collective leadership experiences of participating superintendents through the review and careful analysis of evidence-informed practices. “AASA’s Digital Consortium is an incredibly exciting effort to build a collaborative network of the leading superintendents and school districts in the country. This endeavor will result in a ‘shared synergy’ for the digital transition that will continue growing over time,” said Mark Edwards, superintendent, Mooresville Graded School District (N.C.), AASA 2013 National Superintendent of the Year, and Digital Consortium keynote presenter. “The ideas and concepts produced by the Digital Consortium will be shared by AASA with all members so that they too can benefit from this work.”

Established in 2014, AASA’s Digital Consortium was created to support school leaders in the areas of innovation, creativity and technology. The next meeting will be held July 27-29 at Google’s Chicago offices. An additional meeting, also sponsored by Discovery Education, is being planned for fall 2016.

“Discovery Education is proud to support AASA’s 2016 Digital Consortium,” said Bill Goodwyn, president and CEO of Discovery Education. “We look forward to partnering with thought leaders such as AASA executive director Dan Domenech and leading superintendents from across the country to shine a bright spotlight on some of the most innovative and successful efforts to build the modern digital learning environments today’s students demand and deserve.”
