Alexandria, Va. – Oct. 26, 2015 – Several dozen superintendents from across the country are convening this week to participate in the first-ever Superintendents Summit on Personalized Learning, hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

The three-day meeting, which begins tonight and will run through Wednesday, Oct. 28, is taking place at the Grand Summit Hotel in Park City, Utah.

We believe that personalized learning may offer us the chance to look at new designed-based approaches to learning and teaching and, most importantly, focus sharply on student needs and abilities,” said Mort Sherman, AASA associate executive director. “Our gathering should be seen as a first step by AASA to build a national collaborative, a coalition of those who want to work together long term to learn about and take action with personalized learning.”

Keynote speakers will include:

  • Howard A. Stephenson, Utah State Senator
  • Ember Conley, superintendent, Park City, Utah
  • Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA
  • Cedric Ellis, superintendent, McComb, Miss.
  • Kenneth Grover, principal, Innovations Early College High School, Salt Lake City, Utah
  • William R. Hite Jr., superintendent, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Ted McAleer, managing director, PandoLabs, Park City, Utah
  • Mort Sherman, associate executive director, AASA
  • Valerie Truesdale, chief of technology, personalization and engagement, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Charlotte, N.C.
  • McKell Withers, superintendent, Salt Lake City, Utah

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view Beyond Measure, a film offering, according to its website, “a positive picture of what’s possible in American education when communities decide they are ready for a change.” Vicki Abeles, the film’s director/producer, will be present at the screening to field questions and participate in discussion.
