Tragedy and Destruction Wrought by a Tornado in Oklahoma
Once again this school year, we are witness to the tragedy of a natural disaster devastating a community in unimaginable ways. Our brothers and sisters in Moore, Oklahoma sift through the wreckage and the rubble as the search continues and they try to come to grips with what has happened. Tragically, dozens of people lost their lives including a number of young students.
Moore Public Schools, the third largest district in Oklahoma, serves 21,000 students in Moore and South Oklahoma City. Two of the district’s elementary schools, Two Plazas Elementary and Briarwood Elementary, were destroyed in this tornado.
At AASA, in the wake of these disasters, we pull together and call on our members, districts, state affiliates, and friends to contribute (as they are able) to the schools and the children and families devastated in this event. AASA will be donating all collected funds to Moore Public Schools to aid in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their community
