AASA Cohort Serving as National Leader in Creating Positive Change in Schools

Alexandria, Va. – December 6, 2021 – Superintendents throughout the country who are serving as champions of early learning are gathering at Dallas (Texas) Independent School District, Dec. 6-8, for an in-person meeting hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

In partnership with Waterford.org and the National Head Start Association, participating superintendents in the AASA Early Learning Cohort will engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers during the three-day event, in an effort to discover best practices and review emerging research to facilitate positive change in our schools.

“Broadening the boundaries of early learning programs throughout our communities has never been more important,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “These passionate and committed leaders gathering in Dallas are striving to create high-quality education programs for our nation’s earliest learners, especially for those who need our help the most. We thank Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and his team for serving as host district for our fall meeting.”

“We are honored that AASA has selected the Dallas Independent School District to serve as host district for such an important meeting where experts in this critical field of learning are convening for classroom observation and to exchange best practices and winning solutions,” said Michael Hinojosa, superintendent, Dallas ISD. “Teaching and learning can only get stronger, not only here in Dallas, but across the country, through the AASA Early Learning Cohort. We look forward to working with our colleagues on behalf of the students they serve.”

Key themes throughout the meeting include positive family engagement, how the influx of federal funds will help school districts, learning recovery, employee retention in the early learning space, and supporting mental health of students and families. The convening will also include school visits to Arlington Park Early Childhood Center, J.J. Rhoads Elementary School and the 2nd Step Daycare and Learning Center.
