The AASA Digital Consortium: Leading the Leaders in Seattle

digital consortium fall 17 meetingSuperintendents who are championing solutions of digital learning in their respective school districts are meeting in Seattle for the fall meeting of AASA’s Digital Consortium.

“My team and I at Highline are thrilled to be hosting the AASA Digital Consortium,” said Susan Enfield, superintendent of Highline Public Schools, located in nearby Burien, Wash. “We’re honored and we’re excited. We’re thrilled to have colleagues engaged in this work at different points along the journey, but engaged in the work that we are in as well.”

The three-day meeting kicked off last night with a visit to The Museum of Flight, home of the Boeing Academy for STEM Learning.

digital consortium fall 17 meeting 2“We not only get to relive the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and our nation’s history and defense, we also get to see how we can help our students create the future through computer science, coding and innovative practices,” said Mike Lubelfeld, superintendent, Deerfield Public School District 109 in Deerfield, Ill.

Lubelfeld and Nick Polyak, superintendent, of Illinois’ Leyden High School District 212, serve as co-directors of the Consortium.

Throughout the gathering, participants leading digital transitions in their respective school districts will engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers, highlighting successful models of digital content and professional development to improve student achievement. McGraw Hill Education is supporting the event.

digital consortium fall 17 meeting 3“I hope the time we spend here together digs into the questions of leadership,” said Mort Sherman, associate executive director, AASA. “The skills and dispositions of leadership help to create a culture to help transform schools to improve learning.”

Day No. 2 on Monday gets underway with site visits to Raisbeck Aviation High School in South Tukwila, Chinook Middle School in SeaTac and Midway Elementary School in Des Moines.

The spring 2017-18 Digital Consortium meeting will be held in St. Louis, Mo.
