New Orleans – March 2, 2017 – When hundreds of America’s school superintendents convene in New Orleans for the 2017 National Conference on Education, they will have the opportunity to learn the latest social media tools at the second annual Social Media Lounge, hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

This year’s installment will feature new faces and opportunities for attendees to learn best practices being used in school districts; gain hands-on social media assistance; make new connections; participate in unique contests and giveaways; and take advantage of photo and video opportunities.

“Social media isn’t something educators only utilize in their spare time. School system leaders are incorporating new tools and platforms into their everyday routines so they can excel on the job and effectively engage with staff, students and their respective communities,” said Gayane Minasyan, director, online technology, AASA.

The Social Media Lounge also will feature anti-bullying activist Lizzie Sider (@LizzieSider), who will share her bullying prevention campaign and the role social media has played in making her voice heard.

“No matter how much or how little experience educators have in the social media space, the Social Media Lounge will provide ample opportunities for our members and other educators attending our conference to share ideas about platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Voxer and Periscope. What we’re trying to do is create road maps for them to take advantage of the many benefits social media has in daily communication,” said Deanna Atkins, online technologies and advocacy specialist, AASA.

Superintendents are encouraged to stop by the Social Media Lounge during the conference. They can also engage with their peers by using the hashtag #NCE17 in their Twitter and Facebook posts.

From start to finish, educators will have the opportunity to follow the activities and conversations through AASA’s Conference Daily Online. The award-winning publication provides a comprehensive look at the conference proceedings, including coverage of key speakers, award winners and AASA governance activities, plus photo and video galleries.
