AASA National Supt. of the Year Carvalho to be Honored at White House
Alexandria, Va. – On Thursday, May 1, Alberto Carvalho, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the 2014 AASA National Superintendent of the Year, will be honored by President Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at a White House ceremony during the National Teacher of the Year announcement. The state teachers of the year and national principals of the year will also be honored.
Carvalho was named the 2014 AASA National Superintendent of the Year in February during the organization’s National Conference on Education. Now in its 28th year, the National Superintendent of the Year program, co-sponsored by AASA, Aramark and VALIC, celebrates the contributions and leadership of public school superintendents.
Carvalho is a nationally recognized expert on school reform and finance who successfully transformed his district’s business operations and financial systems with the implementation of a streamlined Strategic Framework, aligning resources to classroom priorities resulting in dramatic increases in reserves, bond ratings and student achievement.
