AASA National Superintendent Certification Program Moves into Second Year
Pilot Program receives excellent feedback
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alexandria, Va. – Feb. 5, 2014 – National Superintendent Certification, a program designed to ensure school district leaders have the tools and training to succeed on the job, is moving into its second year. Administered by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, the next cohort of superintendents will convene in July for certification training.
“Continuing to work with our partner, The SUPES Academy, we have planned a robust experience that focuses on sharpening the skills that successful superintendents acknowledge are needed to thrive on the job,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “I often say, the superintendent’s job is one of the hardest jobs in America. Our program will help our members succeed in these challenging times.”
Last summer, the first cohort of administrators, which was comprised of 28 superintendents from 19 states, met in Oceanside, Calif. for training, consisting of:
- In-person instruction from current superintendents with track records of success;
- Intra session work, simulations and business management training;
- Ongoing membership and coaching from experienced superintendents.
The inaugural cohort has been a positive experience for those who have participated. According to anonymous feedback, the value of the academy was ranked with a score of 4.8 out of a 5 point scale.
“We are excited to partner with AASA on the critical work,” said Gary Solomon, CEO, the SUPES Academy. “The demand placed upon students to raise their level of academic success has never been higher. We should expect our superintendents to raise their level of excellence as well. We believe this program will drive that excellence.”
