Let Congress Know Schools Need Emergency Funding!
Breaking News! New AASA survey projects education jobs cuts of 275,000 for the 2010-11 school year
May 4, 2010 - AASA members are making their voices heard on the need for emergency school funding! If you haven’t weighed in yet, please contact your senators today to share your support for the “Keeping our Educators Working Act of 2010” (S 3206), a bill introduced by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) that would provide $23 billion to save education jobs.
Please, take just one minute to visit the AASA Legislative Action Center, then, under “Save School Jobs,” click on “Write Your Legislators.” Fill in your contact information and click “Submit.” You can then make any edits you wish. Click on “Send Messages” and you’re finished.
Your action, combined with that of other AASA members, will provide the wave of support that the bill needs to pass. And it only takes a few seconds of your time.
By sending your e-mail, you will verify to your senators what the news organizations are picking up daily from the latest AASA survey about the effect of the economic calamity on local schools. Just in the past couple weeks, our report has been referenced in these media outlets: NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, Education Week, Thompson News, and The Washington Post.
Some 300 AASA Legislative Corps members have already contacted their lawmakers. Please do your part now! Sen. Harkin wants to move and he’s got the media in his corner. What he needs most is a rush of senators to cosponsor S. 3206 so it can be taken up quickly. Help create that rush by pushing your senators.
